Dream Job: This is a job working with faculty and students. Could it be yours?

The Job: Assistant/associate professor at the University of South Alabama in Mobile. Responsibilities to include teaching, scholarly activity, and community outreach. Faculty members work with students in the university's family clinic, as well as in the small sports medicine clinic. Faculty are encouraged to hone their clinical skills for private and pro bono PT practices throughout the community.

Why this is a dream job: High passing rate - students who graduate from this physical therapy program have a higher passing rate on board exams than the national average. State-of-the-art facilities - by next year, faculty will be teaching in a new allied health building outfitted with modern teaching facilities, laboratories, and wireless internet access. Valued clinical experience - the university encourages faculty members to work in private practice to increase their knowledge and hands-on experience.

Types of patients and injuries you would work with: Diagnoses and injuries range from CVAs and spinal cord injuries to conditions affecting premature infants and athletes.

Word on the street - what your colleague has to say about this employer: "Recruiters consistently want to come and recruit their students because the graduates do so well compared with graduates from other institutions."

What you could do for fun if you lived here: Located on Mobile Bay on the Gulf of Mexico, Mobile is home to the USS Alabama Battleship (a decorated WWII battleship), Mobile Alabama Cruise Terminal (with cruises to Cozumel, Calica/Playa del Carmen and Costa Maya), and Bellingrath Gardens and Home (a museum, river cruises, and 65 acres of "floral splendor.") Golfers will enjoy the 21 world-class golf courses. A little-known fact is that the traditional "Fat Tuesday," or Mardi Gras celebration, was first held in Mobile in 1857 - making it the birthplace of this famous event that is primarily associated with New Orleans. Mobile's annual celebration continues to this day.

What you would be paid: $45,000 to $105,000, depending on credentials and experience. The mean salary for a 12-month assistant professorship at The University of South Alabama is $72,949.
