Dream Job: This is a job in the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains. Could it be yours?

The Job: Work as a physical therapist for Barton HealthCare System in Lake Tahoe, Calif. Depending upon their specialty, PTs may work in an acute care environment, onsite skilled nursing facility, outpatient clinic, or in the local community as a home healthcare provider.

Why this is a dream job: Barton HealthCare System is the only regional hospital on the scenic South Shore of Lake Tahoe. It's a fully integrated, community-based healthcare system that has served the area for more than 40 years. Barton offers a stable position in a well-established hospital, and the chance to serve one's friends and neighbors in a region known for its natural beauty.

Types of patients and injuries you would work with: The available programs include women's health, pediatrics, aquatics, lymphedema management, hand therapy, neurological rehabilitation, sports medicine, and running and cycling assessment. Additionally, Barton's Home Health program serves both the Lake Tahoe and Carson Valley communities.

Word on the street - what your colleague has to say about this employer: "I love working at Barton. I get a chance to work with some of the best orthopedic surgeons in the U.S. Because of our location, and the 15 ski resorts in the area, I have been able to gain expertise in treating orthopedic injuries. One of the best benefits of my work is the unlimited availability of year-round outdoor recreational activities. It feels great to go mountain biking or hiking after work, or on the weekends. Lake Tahoe is just an incredible place to work and live," says Rene Hoogendijk, PT, director of rehabilitation services.

What you could do for fun if you lived here: From snowy winters to sun-drenched summers, there's never a shortage of fun and healthy activities, including skiing, snowboarding, sledding, snowshoeing, hiking, camping, boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, or even golfing on one of 11 regional golf courses. There are also plenty of fine restaurants and eclectic shops nearby, and famous casino resorts just across the state line in Nevada.

What you would be paid: Salaries range from $64,478 to $88,785, commensurate with experience as well as specialty area. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage; life insurance; tuition reimbursement; a 403(b) plan with employer matching; and up to 180 hours of paid vacation time the first year.
