Dream Job: This is a job located in "The City of Palms." Could it be yours?
The Job: Work as a physical therapist with Lee Memorial Healthcare System (LMHS). Located in Fort Myers, Fla., LMHS offers opportunities in acute care, home health, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient services, and more.
Why this is a dream job: LMHS offers a continuum of care through its five acute care hospitals, children's hospital, inpatient rehabilitation hospital, home health agency, skilled nursing facility, six outpatient clinics, and large primary care practice group. With Fort Myers experiencing incredible growth, career opportunities at LMHS are many and varied. Through a rotation-mentor program, new graduates can become familiar with up to six different practice areas before choosing a specialty. Long-term employees enjoy variety by being able to rotate into various practice areas once every two years.
Types of patients and injuries you would work with: PTs at LMHS serve a diverse population and treat numerous conditions. Lee Memorial is a nonprofit healthcare system with a publicly elected Board of Directors. As such, it responds quickly to the treatment needs of its community and specializes in one-on-one care.
Word on the street - what your colleague has to say about this employer: "Since I moved to Florida in 1998, I've worked for Lee Memorial. They are very accommodating, very flexible. There are so many different areas to work in; they really offer something for everybody. Like three of my coworkers, I am working toward my doctorate, and Lee Memorial has been a big help with tuition reimbursement and flexible scheduling," says Neal Trottier, PT.
What you could do for fun if you lived here: Mild weather, palm tree-lined boulevards, 50 miles of white sand beaches, and an array of shopping, dining, and recreational options make Fort Myers a highly desirable area to live, work, and play. The city is located on Florida's Gulf Coast between Tampa Bay and Naples, and is within driving distance of Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Florida's theme parks. Filled with historical ambiance - Fort Myers was the winter home of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford - the city captures the flavor of old Florida and imbues it with a modern tone.
What you would be paid: Salaries for newly graduated PTs range between $55,000 and $60,000. Experienced PTs earn $83,000 to $87,000. LMHS benefits are some of the best in Southwest Florida, including 24 days of paid time off, health and dental insurance, tuition reimbursement, day care, and relocation assistance.
