The goal of this whole-body vibration continuing education activity is to provide physical therapists with an overview of WBV use in older adults to treat common chronic diseases and deficits, and to teach the PT how to select the proper treatment parameters to produce a safe treatment protocol. After completing this activity, you will be able to:

• Discuss potential physiological mechanisms of WBV action
• Discuss the two basic types of WBV equipment and the various parameters the PT can select in order to achieve a safe WBV intervention that minimizes harmful vibration levels
• Review the proposed effectiveness of WBV treatment to enhance bone density, muscle performance, balance and functional mobility in an older adult population
